Greater Manchester is a major metropolitan area in the North West of England, known for its industrial heritage, diverse economy, and role as a cultural and commercial hub. Greater Manchester (GM) is comprised of ten local authorities including: Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, and Wigan – with a combined population of around 2.8 million people. GM is one of the UK’s largest and most diverse urban areas, including densely populated city neighbourhoods, former mill towns, and semi-rural communities.

With its roots grounded in industry, GM has grown rapidly to create a widely varied economy with strengths in advanced manufacturing, digital and creative industries, health innovation, higher education, and financial services. Moreover, the city-region is known for its music, sport, and media. It has produced globally influential bands, is home to world famous football clubs, and hosts major broadcasters and film production. Ongoing regeneration, infrastructure investment and devolution of power to the metro mayor continue to shape Greater Manchester with major projects underway like the roll out of the Bee Network transport system which aims to create a fairer and more connected place helping citizens moves across the city-region. These projects and initiatives are overseen within a Combined Authority system bringing together the 10 local authorities to create a leading UK city-region.
