Vannie is a PhD researcher in the Politics Department at Newcastle University. Their work is centred on the principles of justice guiding transitions to low carbon living and how these principles, and the concept of ‘justice’ in general, are thought about by communities in the North East of England. Within this work, they are interested in utilising and exploring participatory action research, creative and storytelling research methods, and a mix of environmental, indigenous, and anarchist feminist theory.
Before joining the JUST Centre, Vannie completed their Master’s in the Anthropology of Sustainability and Global Futures at SOAS and has been active working in community gardens, non-hierarchical food collectives, anti-fascist community groups, and anarchist environmental organising in Sheffield and London. They have also previously worked with Newcastle University’s Sustainability Team and on youth climate campaigning in the Netherlands.
