Maddy Longhurst

JUST Practice Builder

Director, Tiny House Community Bristol | UK Coordinator, Urban Agriculture Consortium

Maddy Longhurst is a Director, Member-Coordinator, and Project Delivery Coordinator working across Tiny House Community Bristol and the Urban Agriculture Consortium. Her practice focuses on community and social infrastructure, enabling communities to shape local change and benefit from climate and social action. Maddy’s work spans land use and justice, community energy, agroecology, regenerative tiny home settlements, and bioregioning, underpinned by principles of care, justice, and inclusivity.

She applies a community-led, holistic approach, co-creating infrastructure that prioritises relational, ecological, and social regeneration. Maddy facilitates collaborative projects, supports visionaries, and works with those marginalised by existing systems, aiming to shift towards a care-based economy within planetary boundaries. Her practice emphasises ethical governance, informed by Sociocracy, ensuring transparency, consent, and distributed power in decision-making. Through Tiny House Community Bristol and the Urban Agriculture Consortium, she has enabled participatory action research, resource-sharing, and policy advocacy while supporting diverse community networks to develop sustainable solutions.

Maddy navigates systemic challenges such as short-term funding, institutional inertia, housing precarity, and the risk of burnout in grassroots activism. Her work combines practical facilitation, research, and strategic alignment with philosophical reflection on justice, ecological care, and social connection.

She is motivated by fostering inclusive, just, and regenerative systems, amplifying marginalised voices, and nurturing relational and ecological resilience. Maddy hopes to contribute to the Practice-Builders’ Network by sharing insights on Sociocracy, commons-based economic models, agroecological urbanism, and co-housing, while learning from peers, exploring policy and practice innovations, and accessing funding and collaborative opportunities to bring transformative ideas to life.
