Dr Jingyi Li is a Bicentenary Research Fellow in the Department of Politics at The University of Manchester. As an environmental engineer by training, her previous research at the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research focused on the sustainability assessment of low-carbon energy systems and emerging technology deployment pathways, with expertise in life cycle approaches, circular economy and multi-criteria decision analysis.
Her research increasingly bridges quantitative analyses with qualitative methods to explore questions of equity, lived experience and social justice in low-carbon transitions. Her current fellowship investigates whether, how and for whom thermal comfort can be achieved as a lived capability during the low-carbon housing transition. Focusing on fuel-poor households in former coal mining communities in northern England, her research explores how different heating and cooling arrangements, material and social conditions, intra-household relations and wider governance arrangements enable or constrain year-round thermal comfort.
