Alex is a PhD researcher at the University of Manchester within the Department of Politics, as well as a member of the Environmental Politics Group and Global Political Economy research cluster. His past research has focused on the production of a Lacanian psychoanalytic perspective on environmental politics, exploring the role of ideology and fantasy in shaping actors’ understandings of and responses to zero-carbon policy in Manchester.

His current work focuses on the local political dynamics of anti-climate backlash across the North of England, analysing the nature of right-wing populism and its impacts on climate policy, as well as drawing upon psychoanalytic, Marxian and biopolitical theories to emphasise the conceptual importance of socio-ecological immunity in environmental politics.
